Right Understanding ... Right Value ... Right Wisdom ...

Right Understanding ...
Right Value ... Right Wisdom ...

QUESTION  :  The meditation which we traditionally understand is 'doing' ... do this and that, contemplate on this and that, concentrate this and that on what you see, feel, hear, taste, etc.  But your method is primarily based on 'abandoning' and placing central emphasis on the mind actions of 'abandoning'.

I used to do anapanasati meditation with the intention of attaining nibanna. Because of this personal ambition, I practice Vipassana Insight meditation which I believe, as per the teachings of Lord Buddha.  We were merely trying and attempting to do actions without understanding the logic of abandoning.

Now I come to understand that we need to practice insight meditation with the power of abandoning in mind and contemplate on nothing but abandoning.  Then only we will be able to attain insight wisdom.

While practicing meditation, due to the uncontrollable nature of our physical body, we might probably feel the pain during meditation.  That is natural.  The most important issue here is that we should not grasp those pains and develop attachment to it.  Instead, we need to learn to abandon our attachment to the pain.

In the past I gained nothing because I was doing things in my habitual way. This was the reason why I touched on this pain subject in the beginning of our conversation.

Sayadaw  :  Traditionally we place central emphasis on the actions of 'doing' such as doing and not doing, doing this and that, achieving this and that as well as effects (results) such as becoming this and that, not becoming this and that, understanding and not understanding, etc.  They are merely created actions.

But in reality, we only need to abandon those created actions, believes and change all our actions to 'doing-only'.

Together with your created actions, the action of placing central emphasis on those created actions and grasping happen.  That is the reason why you need to do 'abandoning' in order to abandon your habit of placing central emphasis on those created actions.

You need to abandon all your created actions as well as placing central emphasis on those created actions.

You need to place central emphasis only on the right understanding.  On top of practicing meditation and contemplating on dhamma teachings, you also need to remember the truth of 'abandoning' in your mind as well as 'abandon placing central emphasis on those created actions' in your mind.  Learn to do all your actions with that right understanding in your mind.

It is easier to do created actions but difficult to do actions with right understanding in your mind.  Only when you do your actions with right understanding in your mind, your actions will become 'doing-only'.  You can apply this theory not only on practicing meditation but also on all other actions.

Only when you carry out actions with the right understanding of abandoning and non-grasping; centering your attentions only on abandoning and non-grasping; experience without grasping in mind ... you will not have any attachment or grasping on the outcome.

Your perception 'easy or difficult' can be considered as grasping.  Your perception 'my teaching is deep' can also be considered as grasping.  Try to 'abandon all your grasping' and try to practice 'experience-only' from now onwards.

The biggest problem so far is when people fail to understand and recognise the problem as a problem and thus not willing to find any solution to it.  This can also be considered as the culprit of series of other problems.

So long as you have the right understanding in mind, all these created problems will no longer be problems for you.  By nature, people only have capabilities to identify and solve created problems.  This is the main reason why they fail to identify and find solutions for the critical problems of mind.

Once you have ability to understand and recognise the real problems as 'problems', it will eventually be easier for others to have similar right understanding as you.

As long as you have right understanding, as far as and as much as your understanding permits, you will eventually be able to solve the problems of other people too.  This is called 'sharing the right understanding'.

It is difficult to share right understanding with those who do not know how to appreciate it.  It is even more difficult to work towards attaining this right understanding.  Though this job is extremely difficult, it is also extremely important, fulfilling and valuable.

It is very important for everyone to continuously working towards attaining right understanding for themselves as well as helping others who are facing same issues as them.

In my teaching and also in this process, there is no emphasis on 'people', 'who', 'I', 'you', etc but merely address to and solve the problems of non-understanding.

By nature, human beings incline to focus on 'people or beings' such as I understand, who and who understands, I do not understand, who and who does not understand, etc ... placing central emphasis on 'people or being'.  In reality, you even need to 'abandon placing central emphasis on people or being' and it should only be 'understand' or 'do not understand'.

You need to understand my teachings well but do not grasp them tightly.  Do not grasp to your understanding when you understand my teachings.  Likewise, do not grasp to it when you do not understand my teachings.  Try to remember the right understanding of 'using-only' while trying to abandon the grasping.

If everybody try to solve this issue unanimously, solving this issue will no longer be challenging anymore.

First off all, all the practicing yogis need to have correct understanding as far as insight meditation is concerned.  Erase all traditional habits of interpreting insight meditation as 'doing'.  Stop being contented on the traditional abilities of 'doing this' and doing that' during practicing insight meditation.

One good news is that, of lately, due to the fact that people have been practicing and teaching insight meditation for so many years, they came to realise that the method which they have been practicing for years are not so complete and exhaustive.  They have discovered many shortfalls, gaps, realised rooms for improvement and an urgency to address to those issues.

As long as majority is participated in to address to those issues and close the gap, it will even be easier for the majority to attain right understanding.  As long as the majority attain right understanding, the problem will no longer be a problem anymore.

The problem still remains as a problem just because people still associate actions with 'I', 'you' and regard those actions as 'doing' ... e.g. I do not understand, you also do not understand, I am facing difficulties, you are also facing difficulties as well as doing or not doing, becoming someone or not ...

While you are doing your actions, try to contemplate on the right understanding of 'abandoning' as well as 'abandon placing central emphasis on the actions'.

When you experience strange, different and significant feelings during meditation, contemplate on the right understanding of 'abandon placing central emphasis on happening or not happening'.

When the pain gets severe and becomes unbearable or when you start to experience peaceful and serene feeling or when your feelings and sensations become significant and obvious, try to contemplate on the right understanding of 'abandon placing central emphasis on happening or not happening'.  At the same time, try to abandon your mind from placing central emphasis on those experiences.

Even when you attain significant understanding or when you attain obvious wisdom, still try to contemplate on the right understanding of 'abandon placing central emphasis on understanding or not understanding'.  At the same time, you still need to abandon all your deeper understandings and wisdom.

You continuously need to do step-by-step 'abandoning' as your understanding, wisdom and knowledge become deeper.

The key point here is that ... try to abandon all your actions in your mind even while you are doing those actions.

If you are experiencing effects (results) due to the cause (efforts) that you had put in, try to 'abandon paying central emphasis on those effects'.

When you attain deeper understanding and wisdom, abandon paying attention on those understanding and wisdom too.

By doing so, your mind power of 'abandoning' will reach to the fullest (maximum) till there is nothing left for you to abandon.

The key point here is that you still have 'grasping' just because you do not have ability and knowledge to abandon your grasping and attachment over I, you, myself, etc.

You still have grasping such as my parents, my children in your mind just because you do not have absolute courage for abandonment.

Your mind grasp and attach to the parents as 'my parents' even though they are no longer around or they had long passed away.  It is the proof that you do not have ability and knowledge to abandon your grasping.

You have anxiety over things just because you do not have absolute courage for any loss.  That is the reason why you always have to worry over your life, your health, etc.

You worry over understanding and not understanding dhamma teachings just because you cannot accept the reality that you are incapable of comprehending dhamma well.  You cannot accept your incapability just because you grasp understanding and understanding dhamma tightly in your mind.

Why do you have unnecessary worries?  The answer is simple ... just because you cannot afford to lose them or you cannot accept loss gracefully.  If you have absolute dare for any loss, there is nothing to worry about.

By nature, people do not have absolute dare for sacrifice.  That is the reason why people find life as problematic.  Life becomes problematic just because people are not willing to make sacrifices throughout their lives.  This is the reason why people need to settle their grievances at court.  If people have absolute dare for sacrifice, they do not have to lodge complaints or resort to settle grievances over the court sessions or do not need to attempt endless revenge against each other.

You are not willing to sacrifice just because you cannot abandon your habit of centering your attention over being good or bad.  The problems over being good or bad will no longer be problems for you once you successfully 'abandon' them in your mind.

Just because you cannot abandon your habit of placing central emphasis over 'happenings', you are happy when good things happen but sad when bad things happen to you. No matter how good or bad the situation is, it is still important for you to abandon placing central emphasis on these goods and bads.

You have to work towards attaining right understanding does not necessarily mean that you have to purposely and intentionally work towards achieving right understanding.  You just need to have right understanding in your mind at all times.

As long as you have right understanding in your mind, you will gradually be able to abandon placing central emphasis on those created actions.

On one hand, try to do limitless good deeds continuously and on the other hand, try to have right understanding in your mind at all times.

By doing so, soon there is absolutely nothing left for you to abandon in your mind.  Your mind will be able to abandon everything and anything limitlessly.

No matter how big or small the problem is, as long as you have the power of 'abandoning' in your mind and not forgetting the right understanding, you can be able to solve any problems with your power of right understanding.

By nature, human being wish to have financial stability for their graying years though there is no guarantee that they will live till their ripe old age.  Due to their desire of having financial stability, grasping happened.  They fail to detect their grasping and thus unable to abandon those grasping from their mind.

They are unable to abandon their perception of having financial stability for their graying years just because they firmly grasp on their created perceptions of having sound financial stability is crucial for life, one cannot survive without money, one need to be in good health and etc.

The truth and reality is that you need to abandon everything till there is nothing left for you to abandon, to endure the loss till there is nothing left for you to lose and to sacrifice till there is nothing left for you to sacrifice.  These are the ultimate goals which you always need to keep in your mind as well as to practice till perfection.

You place central emphasis on having or not having, must have this and that, cannot live without this and that just because you do not have these right understandings in mind.

As long as you diligently work towards achieving right understanding and at the same time, try not to grasp anything in your mind, you will no longer face any problems in future.

As long as there are grasping in your mind, you will definitely need to worry over the issues and things which you grasp so tightly.

You cannot accept death just because you take life as reality and grasp it tightly in your mind.

You worry over your worldly possessions just because you take them as reality and grasp them tightly in your mind.

You worry over your reputation or fame just because you take them as reality and grasp them tightly in your mind.

These are merely created perceptions and thus you should not grasp them and take them as reality.  They are just to be used-only and thus try to abandon placing central emphasis on them in your mind.

You always need to remember and contemplate on the created nature of those created things, created possessions and created understandings, which are to be abandoned only and lose only.

Since you are part of the human society, you might face grievances such as good or bad experiences, fair or unfair treatments, etc as they are unavoidable.  So long as you have absolute dare for limitless sacrifice in your mind, you can contemplate on these problems as just to be experienced-only and avoid placing central emphasis on them as problems.

As your power of right understanding becomes stronger and solid, you will gradually be able to abandon all the actions of your mind till there is nothing left for you to abandon and hence your power of abandoning, ability to withstand loss and power of sacrifice will reach to the fullest (maximum).

You will then know and be able to use your life as to be 'used-only', time, place and experiences as to be 'experienced-only'.  As such, you will find life as very precious and fulfilling.

Everything becomes useful as long as you know how to use them as 'use-only'.  This is the 'right understanding', 'right value', 'right wisdom' and 'right jewel' of life.

Habitual Created Lifestyle and Kamma Actions

Habitual Created Lifestyle
and Kamma Actions

QUESTION  :  Based to the situation in USA, where we are living now, if we do not have money and anything to eat, nobody will even be bothered to provide us with food or help us solve our financial woes.  Yes I would like to invest my time in practicing meditation but if I do not do anything for living and if I do not have any income, nobody will feed me or help me financially.  Following this method can especially be challenging in USA.  How best can we handle this scenario?  Please kindly teach me ...

Sayadaw  :  These worries and perceptions are also the created actions of your mind which can be abandoned. You surely can stop your mind from doing those actions.  Your mind grasps firmly on those created actions just because you place your mind into that created actions and instruct your mind to do those created actions non-stop.

As long as the leader, your mind, is doing created actions, the followers will also be doing the created actions of earning money, depending on yourself, etc.

Once you change the actions of the leader and start doing the 'abandoning' actions in your mind and start making use of the mind power of 'abandoning', you will no longer need to grasp on to your perception such as to depend on yourself, to work endlessly, to earn money, to support yourself and your family, to worry for your financial situation, etc.

The mind power of 'abandoning' is complete and exhaustive.

You are worried over unnecessary created issues just because you do not have the power of 'abandoning' in your mind.

So long as you are using your created mind power, 'doing', you will never be able to do limitless good deeds and you will never be able to experience the contentment and happiness in life.

Due to your hard work and created power of 'doing', you might achieve positive achievements but they are not complete and original.

The achievements born out of the mind power of 'abandoning' is more complete and exhaustive.  Complete and exhaustive means you will no longer need to worry over those created problems of life such as who will feed me, where to live, how to support my family financially, etc.  Those created problems will automatically be solved.

As I always say ... though it seems difficult, you still need to put in your best effort to do 'abandoning' in your mind,.  As long as you can do 'abandoning' in your mind, amazingly, you will gradually achieve positive outcomes and experience them in one way or another.

No matter where you live, be it in Myanmar or elsewhere in the world, if you do not just look at the people from their external physical appearance and skin colour but try to look into their mind, all the people in the world are the same in terms of mindset, worries, anxiety, etc.

For this reason, if we can practice the mind action of 'abandoning' in Myanmar, you can surely be able to practice in USA or elsewhere in the world.  What I mean is that, although you are not living in Myanmar, it will not be so difficult for you to change your mindset and start practicing 'abandoning' even while you are living in USA.

Since you are living in USA, naturally, you might tend to adopt and copy the mindset of the people living in USA.  If you manage to 'abandon' your copied (adopted) mindset successfully, you might also be able to help others who are facing the same problems and difficulties as you.  Once you successfully 'abandon' your copied mindset, you will no longer need to experience those country specific created problems and issues anymore.

During the initial phase, we definitely need to have the pioneer who has keen interests and enthusiasm in learning and practicing this method.  We need to start from somewhere and someone so that later on, practicing this method will no longer be perceived as difficult and unachievable task.

Your current lifestyle and perception of life is not perfect and complete.  That is why you always feel the exhaustion and burnt out due to non-stop working.  Every single member of your family is also feeling the physical exhaustion and mental stress due to various created problems.

If this habitual created life style is complete and working fine for everyone, there is no urgency for us to look for any alternatives.  You have everything which life can offer does not necessarily mean that you are blessed with full and happy life.  Hence, you need to try your best to change your life direction, ambition and lifestyle instead of simply resign to fate and accept the current situation.

If there is no better choice and alternative, you can simply resign to your fate without doing anything.

In contrast, you are now given much better choice and alternative to change your mindset and lifestyle completely.

Instead of depending only on yourself and thinking for yourself, you should also try to help others to solve their problems and overcome their difficulties.  You need to do good deeds by helping others.  In return, others will also do their good deeds by helping you as well as helping others too.  My logic is that ... you help him so that he will also help you in return or vice-versa.  As a result, both of you will feel the completeness.

I am trying to establish more complete social environment here at Thabarwa Centre by using this logic.  This method is workable and also be able to withstand the test of time.

In contrast, the theories of the world (loka) is based only on the created logic such as you can enjoy decent living only when you can earn decent income to maintain your lifestyle, you can feed your mouth only when you have money to buy food, you can have steady income only when you have permanent employment, etc. This kind of created logic and lifestyle produce many side effects.

In reality, my view and philosophy of life is useful and even more suitable for present days.

By working up to your maximum capacity, your living standard and quality of life will definitely be improved and you will definitely become financially sound but you are still unable to solve the problems and issues of your mind.

If every human being has only external physical body to deal with, this way of lifestyle might not impose any problems and side effects.  But we also need to take care of our mind.  It is also necessary for our mind to be health and free from any problems and side effects.

As long as you can change your mindset, you can change everything.  By nature, human beings do not know how to handle issues of their mind well.  This is the reason why they only try to change physical things such as, their outside appearance, environment and the world as well as changing job, car, house, country, etc.

In Vipassana Insight teachings, we place mind as prime importance.  As long as you change your mind, others will automatically follow.  The most important requirement as per Vipassana Insight teachings is 'to practice and attain right habit of mind'.

Talking about USA, you have all kinds of things provided for material comfort but lacking in proper handling of the affairs of the mind.  If you can manage to fill up your own gap, you will also be able to fill up the gap of others.   This can be the most fulfilling actions of your life and also the most essential deeds for all mankind.

Doing actions by using the power of kamma actions is not complete. Learn to use the power of 'abandoning' which has the power to abandon all kamma actions.

Using the power of kamma actions such as likes and dislikes, can do this and that, like this and that, think this and that, say this and that, invent this and that, etc has so many side effects.  This is the reason why you need use your mind power of 'abandoning' while you are doing created actions such as talking, thinking, working, earning money, etc.

Due to the reason that all created actions are related to kamma actions, if you want to change the direction of your life, you need to oppose all the created powers which are related to kamma actions.

As long as you have ability in using the right power, it is immaterial whether you are doing which created kamma actions, such as thinking, working, talking, and as long as your actions become 'doing-only', If you reach to that level, I can safely say that you possess the necessary power to do all your actions correctly. This is the real and ultimate original truth.

Created truth which I am talking about includes being healthy is good but being unhealthy is bad, being rich is good but being poor is bad, being famous is good but being unknown is bad, etc.

Though both are truths, the power and strength is totally opposite.

Naturally, human beings tend to depend on the created truths.  My philosophy and teaching method is based solely on the ultimate truth or original truth.

You might ask 'why do we need to know and understand original truth?'  Just because all the created truths are not complete and do not produce conclusive results.

Since created actions are incomplete and non-conclusive, you still need to learn Vipassana and practice insight meditation.  As doing this action is complete and produce conclusive results, you will no longer need to do created actions anymore.  You can live without doing any created actions.

Even when it is necessary for you to do created actions, you will merely be doing them for the benefit of others.  You might not even need to know created knowledge and learn created education since they are not complete and exhaustive.

The Power of Abandoning ...

The Power of Abandoning

QUESTION  :  May I ask something more detail and deep?  What exactly is the state of mind that has the power of abandoning?  How to acquire that particular state of mind?  Can you please explain this to me in more specific and detailed manner.  How should I train my mind in order to acquire the power of abandoning?  I really do not have any idea.

You always tell us to do all our actions by using the mind power of abandoning.  How exactly to use this mind power of abandoning?  What are the methods to use this particular mind power of abandoning?  Please kindly elaborate .....

Sayadaw  :  Firstly, you have to learn to do 'abandoning' in your mind at all times.  You will attain the mind power of abandoning only when you start to do 'abandoning' in your mind continuously and diligently.

QUESTION  :  Do we need to abandon everything?

Sayadaw  :  It is not sufficient.  Your understanding of 'abandoning everything' can still be considered as mano kamma (action of the mind).  It also means that the mind is still doing habitual created action called 'doing'.

Our actions and mindset of grasping everything (possessions), the understanding of nothing is permanent, we have to leave everything behind once we are gone, need to abandoning everything (possessions), etc, can be also considered as habitual created actions of mind.  Thus, you need to abandon those created actions from your mind.

The method to do is ... you need to do the single most important task of 'abandoning' in your mind diligently and continuously .  Your action of doing 'abandoning' in your mind is called doing the original action.  This can also be interpreted as 'abandoning your habitual created understandings' in your mind.

By understanding the action of 'abandoning' in your mind, you will automatically be able to abandon all your other habitual created actions such as doing, working, talking, coming, going, etc in your mind.

So long as you are unable to abandon your habitual created actions in your mind, you can never be able to live without doing, working, talking, coming, going, etc.  You cannot live without doing those created actions just because you cannot abandon them in your mind.

The key point here is that you always need to remind yourself to use your mind only on the actions of 'abandoning' and doing nothing but 'abandoning' in your mind.

We habitually place central emphasis on created actions such as doing, working, talking, coming, going, etc.  We use our mind to do actions such as this, that, you, I, etc only.

In order to abandon these habitual created actions of mind, you have to change the focus of your mind only on the actions of 'abandoning' and use your mind for nothing but 'abandoning' purpose only.

By doing so, you will gradually attain and possess the mind power of 'abandoning'.  Once you have acquired the mind power of 'abandoning', you will be able to do all your actions as 'doing-only' and 'experiencing-only'.

'Abandoning' does not actually mean abandoning of all your physical and oral actions. Doing 'abandoning' this way is the easiest way.

The essence is that 'abandoning' action must be started from the leader, your mind.  You need to learn to abandon your habitual created actions, such as I, you, my parents, my children, my husband, my wife, etc in your mind.

This is the reason why you need to continuously doing non-habitual mind actions of 'abandoning'.  By doing so, you will gradually be able to abandon all your habitual created actions in your mind.

You might find these tasks as difficult if you do now know how to do it. Once you know how to do it, you might not find them as difficult.

I now can say things so effortlessly like this and teach this method so confidently just because I successfully abandoned my past habitual created actions from my mind.

I might only be teaching dhamma by following the traditional methods of concentrate on breathing: inhaling and exhaling if I do not practice 'abandoning' in my mind.

By using the mind power of 'abandoning', I now can teach dhamma in a more effective,  comprehensive and exhaustive way and thus become expert in this field.

As for you, you will see and feel apparent results only when your mind contemplate on 'abandoning' while doing meditation.

Let us construct one scenario in our imagination ... Say supposing, when you are not well, you will not be able to do any of your routine actions. As such, you might probably resign to your fate and decide to contemplate only on dhamma,  and place understanding dhamma as your priority.  You put in your best effort to understand dhamma and thus you understand dhamma and attain insight wisdom as a valuable bonus out of your sickness.

If you can successfully construct the above scenario in your mind, it will not be that difficult for you to apply the above imagination in action.

As long as you are unable to even imagine the above scenario in your mind and as long as you cannot abandon habitual created actions of mind (doing this, doing that), you will forever need to do endless of created actions.

The key point here is that, as long as you can do 'abandoning' mentally, it will not be difficult for your to put them into action.

The truth is that it is not at all difficult for you to do 'abandoning' in your mind as long as you practice hard enough and use your mind freely.

As long as you practice hard enough and use your mind freely, it is possible for you to attain wide range of insight understandings and wisdoms.

Let us touch on the topic of  life and death situation.  Traditionally we only know how to protect ourselves from harms and dangers.  We have never once imagined or be able to mentally abandon our own life and bear the loss. In contrast, once you practice 'abandoning', you will gradually be able to abandon the grasping of your life mentally.

As long as you are doing good deeds continuously, you will gradually be able to abandon whatever you can 'abandon', be able to withstand all kinds of 'losses' and gain the ability to 'sacrifice' limitlessly.

Naturally, we are unable to even imagine doing those actions in our mind.  This is the reason why we are unable place those actions in practice.

Only if your mind can imagine and contemplate on those actions while practicing meditation, you will not be afraid or worried even over the perceived taboo topic 'death'.

This method is called 'widen up the scope of your mind limitlessly'.  In reality and by nature, mind can do anything and everything limitlessly.  You cannot do anything and everything in your mind just because you do not have any intention to do so.

Instead, you only want to do habitual and created actions like ... what to do, how to do, etc.  This is the sole reason why you always like to do usual actions, this and that.  Such created actions do not require the mind power of 'abandoning'.

Once you place central emphasis on understanding dhamma, you might not even have time to do other actions and therefore you do not have to do other created actions except from the action of trying to understand dhamma in your mind.

So long as you increase your momentum of doing good deeds and contemplating on the original truth, you will gradually be able to abandon all your created actions.

As long as you know how to use your 'abandoning' mind power and as long as you know how to abandon them in your mind, you will not face any problem even when you need to do created actions.

The core problem now is that you keep on doing your habitual and created actions with grasping and attachment just because you are unable to abandon them in your mind ... you cannot live without earning, you cannot live without worrying, you cannot live without learning, you cannot live without working, etc. That is the reason why none of your actions become 'doing-only'.

Part Eight : QA and Dhamma Discussion (USA)

Question and Answer and Dhamma Discussion
with Overseas Disciple from USA
(Part VIII)

Not feeling well or failing health is an alarm or the warning that your habitual created actions are causing danger to your health and body.  You can definitely be able to detect your body's health alarm if you keep on practicing dhamma diligently.

As long as you have the mind power called 'abandoning', it does not really matter if you still carry out your routine actions because you will know how to do them as 'doing-only'.  You can do your actions such as working, doing, talking, etc as your routine actions without paying central emphasis on whether going or not, reaching to the destination or not, being successful or not, being alive or death, healthy or sick, etc in your mind.  If you have the ability of doing those actions as 'doing-only', you will not be experiencing any side-effects from those actions.

Since you cannot do those actions as they are supposed to and since you do those actions in your habitual way, you will surely be confronted with unwanted side-effects such as sickness, disease, health problems, mental problems, etc.

If you do 'cause', you will get 'effect' in equal strength.  If you change the 'cause', the 'effect' will automatically be changed.

A good example can be the health issues .... though you try to cure your sickness by using all your means, there is no guarantee whether your sickness can be cured and your health will definitely be back on track.  There are so many evidences to proof this concept.

Another way to look at this dreadful circumstances is .... when you are sick or when your health is failing, though you cannot do other routine actions like healthy people, you can still be able to practice meditation and contemplate on dhamma since these actions are not physically demanding.  Instead of feeling down and out, you can best make use of these unfortunate situation to change your mindset and lifestyle in order to obtain the best possible benefits.

It does not matter how you get yourself back on the track but the most important point here is to get yourself back on the track ... the dhamma path .... one and only Magga path ... the Noble Eightfold Path ... the Middle Way (majjhimā paipadā) ... this should be the most important objective of your life.

Strength depends on "unity", not on "quantity".
Doing only is doing with detachment.

If you are successful in your endeavours and if you are enjoying smooth sailing life, it might be unimaginably difficult for you to abandon what you are enjoying and switch to Magga path.

In reality and in my point of view, it is not really matter how successful you are, how rich you are or how smooth sailing your life can be.  In contrast, it is much much more important for you to be able to walk on the right path ... one and only Magga path successfully.

When your health is failing, if you have traditional mindset or if you are in different religious belief, you might probably resort to the medicines and medical treatments to solve your failing health problem ... or you might probably submit yourself to your ill fate and accept yourself as a sick person.  Hence, you might not have chance to learn and understand dhamma in a right way.

Since you are given a chance to be in acquaintance with the teachings of Lord Buddha, being in failing health condition or being unhealthy can also be considered as a good chance and opportunity to learn and understand dhamma in a right way.

When you are not healthy, you might not be able to do your routine actions in the same manner as your healthy days.  Whether you are in good health or not, you will surely have countless of created actions which you want to do.

By nature, human being always have desire and preference to do usual and routine actions.  No matter how busy you are, you still need to set aside some of your time do the actions which are deemed necessary for you to do.  This include practicing meditation and listening to dhamma teachings.

Due to current global economy, high cost of living, high tech and knowledge era, everyone in the family needs to work hard to maintain a decent standard of living, to keep pace with others in terms of knowledge and technology, to learn the highest education at the best institutions, to maintain solid bank account, etc ... and at the same time, you still need to prevent yourself from falling victim to the side effects of these actions.

Place more emphasis to what you do rather than who is it.

You need to take the signs of these side effects as warning signs and thus learn to take the warnings seriously.  The side effects might not be so dreadful if you know how to solve them with dhamma.  The side effects might become out of control if you ignore the warning signs and still keep on placing central emphasis on created truths such as win or lose, right or wrong, I and you, etc.

The failing or deteriorating health can be considered as an announcement from the body.  The body is telling you that 'if you do this action, you will receive that result'.  Such announcement from the body is far more accurate than the doctor's diagnosis.

Due to the demand from the society, though your health is failing, you are not granted any permission to be discharged from your obligations.  As such, you have no choice but to use all your means and capacity to get your sickness cured as soon as possible so that you can be back on track in shortest possible time.

Solving health problems in this way might not give you definite results and will not give you specific and accurate outcome.  You might probable have to endure the side effects of the medicines and the treatments on top of your sickness.

If you choose to resort to medicines and treatments, you might not gain merits out of this dreadful situation because you still do not have any chance to do good deeds.  Instead, due to the sickness, you might probable accumulate bad kamma and therefore your health condition might become more serious.

The meaning of one 'understands dhamma' or 'acquires insight wisdom' is one attains understanding and realisation of the Law of Cause and Effect.

This understanding is useful and handy even when you are old and sick.  As long as you attain right understanding, this right understanding will forever be useful and helpful.

Place more emphasis on conditions rather than the results.

In typical created point of view, you need to be young and healthy in order to work hard and achieve your ambitions. You are useful and valuable only when you are young and healthy.  Once you are no longer young and healthy, you become useless and worthless in society's point of view.

So long as you understand dhamma and attain insight wisdom, no matter which condition you are in, you will always be useful and valuable.  As long as people know the value and how to appreciate this particular value, you will always be useful.

If you still dogmatically hold on to your created values, you might probably perceive this value as useless.

Since you are somewhat familiar with dhamma, it might not be difficult for you to practice dhamma successfully.  Things will become easier if you practice dhamma regularly.

For those who are neither familiar nor in touch with dhamma might probably perceive understanding dhamma and attaining insight wisdom as impossible or way beyond their imagination.  Hence, they might probable spend their entire life by working endlessly, earning money endlessly, seeking medical treatments endlessly, studying endlessly, etc.

If you choose to do only what is deemed necessary, you definitely do not need to worry about any side effects later on.

For my case, I was given this priceless opportunities to be in acquaintance with dhamma, embrace myself with dhamma and carry out dhamma duta duties, etc at young age.

Should I continue doing created actions like I was in the past, I might probably be surrounded by endless of problems and issues related to business, social, health, etc like many other in the world.

You should strive to practice till there is no more need to practice and you become absolutely free from desire.

Since I was given this golden opportunity, I successfully grasp this golden opportunity and try my utmost best in making use of this golden opportunity as much as possible.

By doing so, I also have chance and opportunities to help other to become like me, which I think is very very important and valuable.
